A provocative proposition is a concise statement that aims to bridge the gap from our current strengths to our ideal and fully actualized self. It's meant to be part grounded in who we are today and part aspirational. My provocative proposition came out of the question, "Why would someone follow me?" Here it is: > I trust and reveal by default. I open myself up to the people I lead - clearly and plainly. I am deeply curious about the lived experience of myself and others, and I meet what people reveal to me with authentic optimism and belief in their potential. I am driven to develop a deepening shared understanding with the people in my life. My biggest passion is in exploring what is true - with all of its inconsistencies, paradoxes, perspectives, and quirks. > > I work with the people I lead with the goal of first developing a clearer and more honest picture of who we want to be, then in becoming more aware of the gaps that exist between who we are today and our ideal selves. Together, we examine the assumptions we hold that keep us from closing those gaps. I believe we are all along a natural and constant journey toward closer alignment with our authentic meaning, values, and aspirations. > > I believe that as we become more in touch with our ideal selves and consistently use that knowledge to influence the shared direction of our organization, we can more confidently and passionately work alongside each other with the knowledge that it's in our collective best interest. The greater alignment we build between us, the greater the impact we will create as a team. > > When I become aware of a misalignment in those around me I take action immediately to understand and address it in a transparent, clear, and focused way. I aspire to build teams where everyone feels empowered and responsible to identify, discuss, and resolve misalignments and ultimately become unique and exceptional leaders themselves.
